Instagram Caption Generator

Say what the post shows and what you want people to do. The AI caption writer drafts three versions in your chosen tone, each with the hook in the first line where people will actually see it.

The line that decides whether anyone reads the rest

In the feed, a caption gets about two lines before Instagram folds it behind “more”. Switch between the two openings and drag the width to see how much survives on different phones.

Same caption, two openings
Narrower phones fit fewer words before the fold.

The reader sees throat-clearing. The news (Saturday, 8am) is hidden behind “more”.

Instagram shows roughly the first two lines of a caption in the feed and hides the rest behind “more”; the exact cut depends on the screen and the username length. This preview estimates it.

What makes a caption work

Lead with the news or the feeling

Whatever would make you stop scrolling goes first: the offer, the result, the question. Context and backstory can come after the fold for people who tap “more”.

Write one call to action

“Save this for your next bake”, “Tell me your order below”, “Link in bio for times”. One clear ask is easier to act on than three.

Use search words naturally

Instagram search reads captions as well as hashtags, so name the thing plainly (“sourdough”, “Leeds”, “vegan brownies”) instead of only hinting at it.

Break it up

Short paragraphs and a blank line between them are easier to read on a phone. If Instagram eats your spacing, run it through the line break generator. Already have a draft? The caption enhancer tightens it and explains every change, and caption ideas by theme has ready-made lines to borrow.

Questions people ask

Is the Instagram caption generator free?

Yes. No account, no watermark, no sign-up. A light per-visitor limit keeps the AI costs sane.

How long can an Instagram caption be?

Up to 2,200 characters, including emojis, spaces and hashtags. Only the first line or two show in the feed before “more”, so the opening matters far more than the length.

Will the captions sound like a robot?

They’re drafts, so treat them that way. Pick a tone, choose the one closest to how you talk, and change a word or two. Adding a real detail (a price, a place, a name) is the fastest way to make it yours.

Does it add hashtags?

No. Captions come clean so you can add up to five chosen tags from the hashtag generator. Instagram limits posts to five hashtags.

Which AI writes the captions?

A current OpenAI language model reached through Vercel AI Gateway. Your text is sent only when you press the button and isn’t stored by HashtagCraft.
