Hashtag Generator for Instagram

Describe your post. HashtagCraft suggests fifteen tags from broad to very specific. Instagram now allows five per post, so you set the five that fit best and copy them in one tap.

Your set 0/5

Instagram allows up to 5 hashtags per post. Tap a tag to set it in the stick; tap again to lift it out.

Why five slots, and how to fill them

Instagram used to allow 30 hashtags. In December 2025 it announced a five-hashtag limit for posts and Reels, saying relevant tags work better than long generic lists. With only five places, each tag needs to earn its spot. A mix that works for most posts:

  • One or two broad tags name the subject, like #baking. Lots of posts share them, so on their own they help little.
  • Two niche tags reach a community that seeks this out, like #sourdoughbaking or #realbread.
  • One or two specific tags describe this exact post, place or product, like #leedsbakery. Few posts use them, and the people who search them want exactly this.

The generator gives you all three tiers with a short reason for each tag. You still make the final call: you know your audience, and a tag that looks right to an AI might mean something else in your community. Check a tag in Instagram search before you post it. The guide to using hashtags on Instagram has a hands-on sorter for practising this.

What this tool won’t pretend to know

You won’t find post counts, “reach scores” or “trending” badges here. Instagram doesn’t give independent tools that data for arbitrary hashtags, so numbers like that are usually made up. HashtagCraft tells you what each suggestion is (an AI idea drawn from your description) and leaves the checking to the one place with real numbers: Instagram’s own search.

Questions people ask

How many hashtags can I use on Instagram?

Five. In December 2025 Instagram announced a limit of five hashtags per post and Reel, down from the old 30. That is why HashtagCraft gives you five slots: choose the five most relevant tags, not the five biggest.

Is this hashtag generator free?

Yes. There is no account and no sign-up. You can generate a fresh set whenever you like; a gentle rate limit stops abuse.

Do these hashtags come with post counts or reach?

No, on purpose. HashtagCraft has no access to Instagram’s data, so any tool that invents post counts or “trending” scores without that access is guessing. The suggestions are written by AI from your description and labelled as such. Search a tag in Instagram to see recent posts before you use it.

Do hashtags still help on Instagram?

They help Instagram understand what a post is about. Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri said in 2022 that hashtags can make a post more likely to appear on a hashtag page but shouldn’t be treated as a way to get more distribution. Good content and a clear caption matter more.

Should hashtags go in the caption or the first comment?

Instagram has said hashtags in the caption are the clearer signal. Putting them in the caption also keeps them attached if you later edit or the comment gets buried.

Does it work for Reels?

Yes. Reels follow the same five-hashtag limit. Describe the Reel, including the format (tutorial, day-in-the-life, before and after), and the specific tier will reflect it.
